Examples for journeys: Culture & Camping (15 Days)

Day 1:

  • Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) in the evening. A representative from the Kia Lodge will be there to collect you and transfer you a short distance to the lodge. 
  • Overnight stay at Kia Lodge

Day 2:

  • Cultural tours around Mt. Meru. 
  • Overnight stay at Ilboru Safari Lodge. 

Day 3:

  • Drive to Tarangire National Park. Game view on your way to the lodge for lunch.Game drive at about 4pm until sunset.
  • Overnight stay at Tarangire camping 

Day 4:

  • Early sunrise game drive and then return to camp for breakfast. Then following breakfast go back out to game view until lunch. After lunch there is a siesta time to relax until the 4pm late afternoon game drive. 
  • Overnight stay at Tarangire camping 

Day 5:

  • Early breakfast then drive to Lake Manyara National Park. Game viewing and picnic in the park. Then drive to Lake Eyasi arriving late afternoon to camp. 
  • Overnight stay at Kisima Ngeda camp. 

Day 6:

  • Cultural experiences with the indigenous people of this area. 
  • Overnight camping at Kisima Ngeda

Day 7:

  • After breakfast drive up to the rim of Ngorongoro Crater. Here you will skirt around the rim and then head to Empakai Crater. Hiking in the forest and crater. 
  • Overnight camping at Empakai. 

Day 8:

  • Drive back to Ngorongoro Crater and descend 2,000 ft to the floor of the Crater for a day of game and picnic lunch. Return to camp on the rim in the late afternoon. 
  • Overnight camping. 

Day 9:

  • Drive down to the Serengeti plains. Stop at Oldupai Gorge and drive to Lake Ndutu for a late lunch. Game drive from about 4pm to sunset 
  • Overnight stay at Ndutu Safari Lodge

Day 10:

  • During the months of mid-December through May, the famous migration of wildebeest will be in the southern end of the Serengeti around Lake Ndutu. Game drives. 
  • Overnight stay at Ndutu Safari Lodge

Day 11:

  • Drive north into the Serengeti National Park and spend the day game viewing with picnic lunch. Arrive at the lodge in the late afternoon. 
  • Overnight stay at Seronera Wildlife Lodge 

Day 12:

  • Visit the Serengeti Tourist Center before heading further north. Arrive at the lodge in time for lunch. Late afternoon game drive. 
  • Overnight stay at Lobo Wildlife Lodge. 

Day 13:

  • Drive down the Rift Valley escarpment to Lake Natron. Take along a picnic lunch. Camp is by the Ngare Sero River and nearby Oldoinyo Lengai (the Maasai people call it the Mountain of God). 
  • Overnight stay at Lake Natron Camp

Day 14:

  • For those of you who wish to climb the mountain (very rugged), you will have to start the climb, with a guide, at around midnight or 1am. Summit at sunrise. You should be back at camp by around 11am. Those who do not climb the mountain can take a hike up the river gorge. 
  • Overnight stay at Natron Camp 

Day 15:

  • After breakfast drive back to Arusha.
